With the approach of yet another Summer without the presence of a local pub and the associated benefits to the local community, members of the Save the Windmill Group have decided to push harder than ever to restore The Windmill to its former glory.

The group which meets on a monthly basis has decided to explore the local and wider interest and support for a community bid to purchase the pub.  This would be funded by multiples of £100 shares being purchased by locals and visitors, with the purpose of developing and re-opening The Windmill.

Currently the group are only requesting an expression of interest to purchase shares should they become available, not the payment for, or issue of shares now, demonstrating that The Windmill Pub remains wanted and viable.

In October 2015, the group commissioned a professional independent viability report, which supported The Windmill’s viability as a successful pub (see viability tab above to download the full report). This report will be fundamental in opposing any further Change of Use Application by the owner on the grounds of non-viability due to the recent and unsuccessful marketing of it, for lease only.

Lots of positives at the meeting on Wed. I would be pleased to invest and having ran the pub 1978-2008 I would not have stayed that long if it was not viable. We do need a spokesperson though. How about Phil ??Please advise me of next meeting.

There will be nowhere otherwise to celebrate the 250th or 300th Bessemer Anniversary, so, looking ahead, this is a worthy cause...

Yes it sounds like a pub well worth saving. A community needs at least one local pub. All the best.

I would be interested in helping if I can. The Government supported Power to Change has today opened its Bright Ideas fund for applications by 1st December, see this link if interested:

If you are thinking of creating a Community Land Trust, mainly for housing but some pubs are CLTs, then I have good contacts with the National Community Land Trust Network and am meeting their Director next Wednesday.

I am also a Trustee of a Charity in Liverpool where we have just finished building 32 affordable housing on land donated by the Catholic Archdioce using sweat equity, volunteers, donations, etc. Our experience could be useful, especially if renovation of the pub and possible future building of affordable housing in the village.
